Sunday afternoon hunger pings at Brisbane Hotel

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

I love the chilled atmosphere of the Brisbane Hotel on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I think it's especially more epic when you've spent the morning scouring through the boutiques of Northbridge.

It's however very popular with the locals so tends to be packed out inside and on sunny days the courtyard and patio areas are filled to the brim.

We were lucky enough to get a seat outside in the back corner under some half shade provided by a tree. The seats lined with comfy cushion. We ordered our pimms with lemonade expertly made by our bartender - not too sweet and not too bitter with generous amount of strawberries and lime. It was the perfect drink on a warm day - the thirst quencher.

To balance out drinks we ordered a couple of snacks and seeing as it was for afternoon snack for two girls we decided not to go all out. We ordered the churros (little sweets) and of course savoury aranicini balls.

Little did we realize that the churros were massive and the arancini ball was definitely made for more than two to share! It definitely made sense why the waiter gave us a judgmental "uh really?" look.

Nevertheless, the arancini was golden brown, with the crunch at the first bite followed by the delicious taste of cheesy goodness and all things of delight.

The churros were also very crunchy on the outside but moist and fluffy dough on the inside. It was made more perfect by the melted chocolate sauce, although the white sauce - which definitely was not white chocolate nor was it cream but rather melted ice cream ruined it. They should have just presented it with two melted chocolate dips if they didn't have huge chocolate rather than trying to pass melted ice cream as anything. Melted vanilla ice cream just tastes horrible, especially when it's warm.

Other than that the Brisbane hotel is definitely one place to just chill out, have a few pints, eat a few dishes on a warm balmy spring/summer day.
