sometimes work can be awesome...

I love the current work place, I couldn't have been more blessed to have finally ended up where I am. After all the whinging, working at different places have given me so much experience and lessons I couldn't have found anywhere, and thus also bringing me to where I am. I guess, it's true what they say, everything happens for a reason, and when a door closes, a window opens... or something along those lines anyway.

So apart from having nice collegues, work being enjoyable as much as it can be, I have awesome venues for lunch not so far from work. One of those venues is the famous patisserie, La Galette de France.

They sell crepes, savoury and sweet, as well as croissants, homemade sauasage rolls, pies, macaroons, coffee etc. Unfortunately, I was so hungry I didn't take any photos of the crepes (besides, it wasn't very photogenic!)
However, I definately took photos of the almond croissant, which was just absolutely delish, I had a bite! It has custard in it!! And, the chocolate crossiant and macaroons.

As far as I'm concerned, I shall go back on a weekend one day and actually try something more than the crepe (I had chicken and mushroom!), and maybe actually have proper brunch like meal/tea and enjoy it so much more instead of worrying about the time and having to get back to work!

Now I just need to find a weekend when I am free so I can go.

San Churros

One of the best things in life is having good ole hot great quality coco chocolate (or uber delicious cold chocolate shakes in summer!!)

And what better place than at San Churros - where you get churros to dip into hot melting chocolates too.

It's a cafe, no a dessert haven, no it's both, specialising in churros and chocolatey goodness. And thank God, I don't have to go all the way to Fremantle for it - it's now in Subiaco and Leederville!! *HEARTS* ^______^

San Churro's ice-cream sundae -  consists of dark, milk and white chocolate topped with chocolate sauce that goes hard - kind of like ice-magic! (It's taken by a phone camera, so not the best quality!)

I feel the need to go keep going back - especially after a rough day/week at work.. - next time I'm trying their chocolate fondue and their limited summer desserts - like their Strawberry Bizcocho and Banana-Caramel Bomba... it's making me drool just thinking about it.

It's the best after a long hard week at work to catch up with friends over chocolate - let chocolate be your salvation!!

Toast..

When an all day breakfast cafe is down the street from your house sometimes it's not far enough for it to feel as though you are "going out somewhere to have brunch" so I've been putting it off, until the day of On the Bright Side festival, where I figured the best meal is pretty much a brunch (seeing as I woke up at 10:30 and the festival started at 12-ish which meant that we should be there by 2-ish).

So I had a slice of leftover quiche before S arrived and we made our way to Toast (which by the way used to be this little crappy cafe - thank GOD that is gone considering how bad the food/cake/coffee was and now something better is there at a prime location).

The thing I love about Toast is the cute little white wooden garden chairs outside, with white umbrellas, blue and white tables all overlooking the lovely Claisebrook Cove (and there were vintage 1960s red vinyl chairs inside) and the cute little coloured plastic cups and vintage/old glass bottles (which probably was something else before it was cleaned and reused). It was all very school-like.

My healthy option - low GI (which kept me going for the whole entire festival and some more!!)

It was fantastic - it wasn't soggy and tasteless (or some museli ones are like vomit like!) But this was perfect  mix of sour sweet and the almonds just gave it that crunch!

Oh and Toast does take away too! Which was exactly what I did today for my late lunch.

- The Avocado weren't ripe enough and the hollandaise sauce was sour, not enough of the buttery-ness.. I won't be getting the hollandaise anything at the place..

Overall Toast wasn't too bad, it's quirky, quaint and very much like the artsy cafes that seems to be popping up all over Perth at the moment. If it's busy I wouldn't recommend you sitting inside - in fact why sit inside (unless if it's raining), after all the views are excellent outside and it's a lot more roomy.

I think I'll be back and next time I'll try one of the usual suspects - bacon, eggs, mushrooms and toast. 

Doing Coffee the Le Croissant way

This my friends is how you get your caffeine dose and catch up on your reading.

You need a spoon to drink your mocha and you get two HUGE fresh croissant.

I love the French.

They also have this lovely selection of french patisserie. Alas, it's been a while, where I had the free time to go there, sit, read and ignore the rush.

West End Deli

West End Deli is situated on Carr st in a cornershop in the middle of a quiet neighbourhood. When I first walked through the doors, my first reaction "oo the kitchen is right there" - i like open kitchens...and "omg there are chairs hanging on the wall!". Yes, the decor is charmingly mismatched with a rustic feel and total comfort. In fact it was so comforting that we recognised one of the waiters, who happened to have served us at Cantina 663.

As soon as we sat down, he served us two large glasses of water, followed by a drinks order. I settled for their fiori coffee - mocha, which tasted like it had a little bit of spices through it - like maybe chocolate chilli powder? I'm not sure. Maybe, I was tasting something weird in the coffee. S on the other hand, had a freshly squeezed orange juice, as she was unable to have any "iced" drinks due to not having any ice left, or something rather.

Although, we got there at 11:30am on a Wednesday, so much of their freshly baked goods were already consumed by the hungry early morning crowds, so the last bits of the famous West End Deli's banana bread and portuguese tart was gobbled up by S. I on the other hand, settled for one of their menu items, the morcilla croquettes with scrambled eggs. It was just fantastic and continued to fill me well into dinner time.

It's definately worth a bite to eat at West End Deli, especially if it's for a branch meal, or just to stare at their interesting deco. I definately be back for another round of their menu.

No. 44 King St. Cafe

o. 44 King st. Cafe is on one of Perth's prestigous streets, on the corner of a little laneway, overlooking boutiques like LV, Tiffany and Co, Bally and neighbouring Wheels and Dollbaby and Wasteland.

Rich wooden floors, rustic ceilings, wine cellars, solid tables and chairs provide a comfortable, and moody environments for diners to relax, chat and watch their meals/coffees being prepared in an open kitchen.

It's a super chic cafe, serving great coffee, a huge selection of teas and cakes, wines and of course food (which is seasonal). It's one of my favourite places to catch up with friends for a coffee or an after dinner chill-out place.

The fashionable location and great ambience (day and night!), combined with great coffee, food and an open bar make this place the perfect cafe to hang out.

My study cafe places...#1 Mill Point Caffe Bookshop~~~

Tucked away on Mill Point Road, South Perth, opposite Ciao Italia (whom have had an their much needed renovations!!) sits this gorgeous little bookcaffe.

At the front of the cafe is where interesting, rare books are sold and where if you wish - you can sit on their lounge with a coffee and read or sit on one of their wooden tables - where you can opt to eat one of their many dishes on offer OR you can just sneak around to the back of the cafe where you will find the cutest courtyard, with a willow tree, providing shade and a whole lot of seats to choose from to eat and enjoy your morning/lunch out!

The menu offered at Mille Point Caffe Bookshop is fresh, reviltalising and most importantly the stuff of brain food - perfect for all day studying at the place! I especially love their juices - they so yummy and have all these interesting mixes - the perfect stuff for spring & summer. Their coffee is average but HEY who cares.. they have awesome juice mixes!

So the "x" number of days that i spent at this place - the people that work there are friendly, cheery and were damn generous with their servings - all of the time! From the first visit to the last.

Oh they awesome make really really nice uber big salads and nachoes, as well as milkshakes, coffees, juices and kid-sized things. It's very relaxed, nice, casual place. I love just going there for breakfast with a book or just to enjoy a morning out. (although, the times i've been is for me to study T_T but hey it's damn good venue for studying, beats the stale air of a library!)

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I COME HERE AGAIN AND AGAIN just for the ambience, friendly staff and hearty yummy food!

Green and Co.

I realise the name sounds like some eco-friendly company - something for greenpeace or whatever - the whole save the planet thing.. but believe me, it isn't. Green and Co. is the name of this little (well I should really say BIG) cafe in Leederville. You can recognise it anywhere for it's deco, bright lights and lively chatter.

The place uses more electric lighting and power than the amount used to light up the city of Perth (and that's saying a lot of things!), so its' far from being "environmentally friendly". Although having said that I am NOT saying that they are not, I'm sure they are... OK lets move on.... this of course stems from the fact that they whole entire ceiling of Green and Co. has suspended lighting covered in big paper latern-like ball light dresses (commonly known as light covers), making it quite different and unique from the usual dark, mood-lighting commonly found in other cafes. To add to all that, they have LCD hang up on walls filled with concert posters dating back 10 years or more ago, lounge couches, pool table and old-style arcade games (x2) at the back and lots of card and board games to play with.

So in terms of the food and coffee?.. The few times I've been there they've burnt my coffee (the hot chocolate been good, the tea well.. average for me anyway.. I've been to better places).  They don't really have a menu but you know the drill - they have all the usuals; lattes, mocha, long shots, macchintos, chai etc. etc. and a good selection  of tea. But, the best part of the place is their LARGE selection of cakes - there are cakes for all types of tastes and preference. From the chocolate-est to the not so rich. There is one for you!

The service? There is no waiter/waitressing service so you order, you wait for your order then take a seat (i advise that someone saves a seat while you wait for your order), they are really quick at making the coffee/tea (despite burning it!).

The ambience? - LOUD, you be competing to hear! but like every good cafe it's relaxing and a good place to catch up and maybe discuss group study stuffs (as no one will tell you to shut it!)

I'll go there for the large selection of cakes, skip the coffee, perhaps have a hot chocolate and just soak up the ambience.
