A chest of treasures from yours truly xoxo

I love finding vintage treasures, especially when you go shopping. Not only do you find one off treasures, buying it benefits the community, in this case, all profits went to the Cancer Council (which ended up being around $4300). I'm so glad this concedes with the Nuffnang September Blogger Challenge. I get to give all you guys an insight into what I got, and how I scored some great vintage pieces, whilst all doing it for charity!

I didn't prowl a lot of op-shops or anything like that to find these little treasures, Two Bucks Til Wednesday did it all for me!

waiting outside to go into Mount Hawthorn Lesser Hall, where the event was being held

Getting involved in your community and keeping an eye out on sales by various groups of people who raise funds for good courses are a great way to score new items for your wardrobe without blowing a budget. This may involve simply looking at your local newspaper, Xpress Magazine, your weekend papers etc. All of which, to begin with is free, if not only costs you a few dollars. I guess it's not just for raising funds, you may also notice things like designer sale retail outlets (which may only ran for a weekend or a few weeks) - which usually involves massive discounts, or sample sales.

people crazily browsing for good finds... it was nuts.. everything good was grabbed in a second..
I kind of stood there a bit stunned for a few mintues..
In my case, what did I pick up at the Two Bucks 'Til Wednesday vintage charity sale?

I picked up cakiepop - which are strawberry mashmallow topped with white chocolate dyed pink goodness
baked by this lovely guy - Bobby the Baker seen below in the photo (find him on facebook!)
The following are sneak peeks of what Gabs and me got.. the carmel case was also from the sale..

I followed that by trying on a few of the pieces with what I have in my wardrobe, it's a working progress at this stage.

Photobucket

The puss-bow blouse with my Sportsgirl shorts teamed with suspenders I got from Friends of Couture and a floppy big sun hat from a department store (I can't remember if it was David Jones or Myers)
with my Christian Louboutin (i probably would in theory wear it with nice pair of wedges/sandals/clogs)

Photobucket

The white blouse actually has double looking collar detail with actual french cuff sleeves.
This mean that if I really want to dress very androgenous-ly I can actually invest in a pair of cuff-links.
The thought some what excites me.
However, I can probably pair the shirt with a skirt or tuck it into a dress as well and be very preppy.
I teamed it with my fedora I bought years ago from Portmans

Photobucket

A floaty poka-dotted dress. Perfect length on me. It's gorgeous. Except it needs lining/slip.
The hat was from The Vintage Store in Melbourne
The Belt was from Myers.
The necklace is from William Topp in Northbridge.

Photobucket

This was my "drunken" look - hahah
I wouldn't wear this look out, it would be ok if I wasn't mucking around and placed the scarf on. So tragic.

Photobucket

The dress above wasn't from the vintage sale but it was a great find I found at the Salvation Army.
It hang on you so well, so much more than I thought possible.
Another floaty but this time floral dress.

So I'm excited for these finds, now all I have to hope is that I win the $250 Nuffnang September Challenge!

Tony Romas

Tony Romas is suppose to have the best ribs in Perth and I've heard many raves about how generous their servings are and how delicious the ribs are!!

Tony Roma is situated on Hay street, near the BP building and opposite Box Deli it's actually rather roomy and big for a place that doesn't seem so. We went on a Tuesday so we were able to book a table and even on a week night it was packed. On the weekend, you can't book and the chance of you getting a table is slim unless you get there early.

We were given a starter of bread with garlic butter before our sides came, which was a the loaf - a big bird's nest of onion rings (from actual onions! - i can't stand "fake" onion rings) and Jo's the chicken wings.

And then our mains came..

prepping up for our mains - with the tony roma bibs.. i came straight from work so I was still in my white shirt.. can't get that dirty can i??! hehe

they were huge.. none of us were able to finish it. I got the St. Louis Ribs with the Carolina Honey sauce, regular size. While the boys got the FULL ribs (massive as!!) and JT opting for all the flavours.

The boys ribs - the full size..

I opted for a healthy side - green beans along with the loaded potatoe and this is the size of the regular ribs! MASSIVE! the ribs also had a lot of meat on them too!

I enjoyed my first experience and using the Gold entertainment card made it all the better. It's definately value for money. It was also nice to get some good ole protein into you as well!

399 Bar

We stumbled to 399 Bar after the end of our magnets collection during Perth Fashion Festival to grab a quick bite to eat and to quench our coffee craving.

399 is located on William street half way up to Brisbane street, opposite the butchers and VHT asian grocery store, near where La La Orange used to be (now I believe it's replaced by a store called Scraps). They part of  the new breed of small bars/cafe in quirky locations, with the whole indie sort of feel to it.

They serve fine wines, coffee, interesting yummy cocktails and snacks. Perfect little place to catch up with friends as they have everything for anyone thats fussy.

So like I said, A and I grabbed our coffees (which was suppose to come with free cuddles - that was advertised out the front... but unforunately it didn't!) and a slice of the best banana bread I've ever had.

Mocha for A

 Latte for me..

we received no hugs!

 BEST banana bread ever!!

The place is definately needed in Northbridge, a little hidden away from the busy streets of James and serving great things.

Next time I'll go there for the cockatils and wines, who is with me??

Style Inspiration: Twiggy

Twiggy's androgynous looks, large eyes, long eyelashes, and she just has this cuteness (and yet sexy innocent) look about her. Apart from Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy has one of my favourite looks. And why wouldn't you love it?

And her, just look at Twiggy now? She still looks absolutely brilliant, with no shockingly bad surgery or botox or whatever. (In fact, I like to think she aged gracefully).

"It's thoughts like this that catch my troubled head when you're away, when I am missing you to death." - Such Great Heights (The Postal Service)

As I start to drift off to sleep in the cosy tangles of my sheets and pillows, my mind meanders through a vast terrain of thoughts.
I'd be cuddling my pillows tight.
Finding myself missing your light rhythmic breathing and being curled up beside you with my face softly pressed  (and perfectly fitting) the nook of your neck, while your head rests against my face.
And in the deep comfort of your warmth and sheer presence,  and just the sounds of our breathe I lay happy and content.

Perth Fashion Festival: Outskirts on William: Popsicle 2010

Wow, has it already been ONE WHOLE YEAR since my last post on this event and since my first post on this new blog page of mine (this site only been one year-ish old and me, having blogged on various different outposts for the last 6 years, O.M.G, SIX years!!). I must now report to you about Popsicle and Outskirts on William for 2010.

Photobucket

Again, another brilliant outstanding bunch of talents out there in the good 'ole Perth scene. Creativity is definately there and giving the talents the chance to showcase their works during events like this is fantastic. I allows everyone to appreciate them and allows them to get themselves out there and promote. Win-win for everyone. Now if only they have pop-up store like the one in Melbourne, where up-and-coming designers than hire a closet space to showcase their works, then that would be awesome. I'm rumbling.

So yes, Popsicle this year, unlike last year was not a movable old school bus, but rather, two huge shipping containers right in the middle of the Perth Cultural Centre (aka outside the Alexander Library, just after those seat of stairs that are now purple/yellow).

as well as the Ping Pong Diplomacy, Little Gracie, and naughty cute lingerie wear by
appropriately named Kiss Me Quick as well a few more, visit here
for more details

One of the other things I love about the Popsicle event is how it promotes the exploration of all the quirky and interesting boutiques, cafes and galleries on William street, mainly by hunting the Popsicle magnet. This year it was illustrated by the artist, Sean Morris. It's just fun to hunt for the whole magnet set, and along the way you visit all the pop-up galleries as well as of course actually entering the galleries, cafes and boutiques that you always drive pass but never enter, but promise yourself that you will.
This year it took me to PICA (Perth's Institute of Contemporary Arts), a venue I've been meaning to have a look around, but never manage to take anyone with me.
The Love of Diagrams was rather interesting and abstract, but so abstract that I didn't quite understand it. I'm not that creative or imaginative to understand contemporary art just yet. However, Objects to Live by: The Art of John Meade was rather intriguing and thought-provoking. I can understand statues, mobiles etc. I guess only because it can be interpreted in so many different ways and you can view it on so many different angles.
The following photos are from Objects to Live by: The Art of John Meade, you really ought to go to PICA and check it out.
We also ran into an exhibition called "Being Hockney" by a Perth photographer Amy Vinicombe. Her photography is amazing and the exhibition is just incredible and inspiring. It really makes me want to pick up my DSLR properly and actually learn. Here, are just a brief shot of her work. If you want to see the close up visit her at the pop-up gallery on William street, in between James and Francis street and be inspired. She's open from 10am - 5pm until September 15th.

and one of the things I love about this exhibition is her encouragment to use her photos to do a collage on a pillar in the middle of the room. A and I took the opportunity and spent about half an hour doing up one side of the column.

The photo I took of it doesn't do much justice, it looked better in real-life. I think though, the best part was that Amy was there and we took a few photos with her. She's such a darling. She even offered to teach me the basics as to how to use my camera. I might take her up on the offer, if only I wasn't working. *SIGH*

Us with Amy
The day ended with us walking right up William street to William Topp and getting ourselves one off pieces of jewellery and the last of the magnets. Overall, it was just fantastic day out, the sun was shining, I found a trove of treasures along the way and got myself a necklace, which would be a perfect accessory for this summer.
