open letters and kisses...

As I get older, as my friends get older, as times change, as priorities shift and games that were played at parties such as the donut string game, the chocolate dice, the apple bopping, the made up games of Captain Planet, the chaseys and hide-and-go-seek disappear and turn into one of sipping coffees in a quaint cafe, of having dinner somewhere local.

It's good to know however that despite all that when we meet there is always laughter, each of us trying to out talk each other just from pure excitement of not having to see each for a while, the jibes that only we can give to one another, the support and shoulders that we provide, the friendship that we've maintained over the last 10 years is still there no matter how life and time change, no matter how long it takes for us to organise a catch up over good coffee.

For that I'm grateful.

I've never been more happy to know that I have true friends. If I take away anything from this life, it's understanding and being grateful for knowing and experiencing all the things I have with the people I know and love.

Here's to many more decades and many more adventures.

I just realised that we haven't had a nice candid group photo for too long. Must start collecting that agains.

Playing Tourist - Fremantle Prison Tunnel Tour

A few of us headed to Fremantle on a hot Sunday afternoon, last week, not the weekend that just passed but the one before that, to do touristy things seeing as Al was back home from Sydney.

Despite living in Perth all his life and that includes us (us being - Wells, M, me and bf) none of us has completed the underground tunnel tours at Fremantle Prison ever since it opened. So playing a little tourist underground of a prison seemed exciting and adventourous, especially for a Sunday.

It's not that I can't position the camera to be straight, the ground was just slanted the whole time no matter where i stand and how I held the camera. Anyway, that's the entrance to teh Fremantle Prison. See it doesn't look that bad....

We had to wear fabulous and gorgeous white suits (please note the sarcastic undertone) with gum boots, which was then topped with helmets, life jacket (seeing as there is water down there - they dug the tunnels under the prison because they found fresh water down there, that is until it got contaminated in the 1960s and the town found fresh water else where, until then the tunnels provided water to the town of Fremantle) and of course a harness - after all we were climbing a 20m ladder down to the tunnels. This was all done only after a successful passing of a breathalyser. Blood alcohol must be 0.00!

Us in our "gorgeous" white suits and black gum boots

I can feel... an aura around you!

nnnaawww doesn't Wells look sooo cute here!

bf sitting waiting to get helmets

We successfully completed the tunnels tour so all smiles around!

bf after the tunnels tours - see all the safety gear! haha totally HOT (NOT!)

There was took a short tunnel tour (literally had to be bent down for those tall people, I was fortunate enough and didn't have to bend too much - see short height comes in handy....). We then loaded ourselves onto boats and canoed along the waterways of the tunnels which was an experience. Without our helmet lights it was pitch back, you couldn't even see the your hands and they were right in front of you!! Even if your eyes adjusted to the darkness you still couldn't make out anything. Our tour guide Tristan proved that to us!

We learnt a fair bit out the history of Fremantle and the jail. It was not just to house the convicts, but the convicts were specially "imported" from England to help find fresh water (which was scarce in those days) and the convicts managed to find it, it was right under them. The prison stayed open from th 1890s until 1992 when it closed. It wasn't until mid 1990s that the prison was opened to the public as a historical venue and tourist hot spot.

For those coming to Perth, I definately recommend you take a Fremantle Prison Tour, if it's not the tunnel one at least the Night time tour (it's freaking awesome with all the "ghosts" especially at Halloween!), or even the day one is probably good too.

Mulberry Alexa!

I've had my eye on a leather satchel for a while, but none I've seen compare to the LOVE that I have for Mulberry Alexa.

Unforunately it is completely and utterly out of my budget, no matter how much it may change my life and how gorgeous and wonderful it is. I want one. I need one.

I can't decide wheather I want the classic soft oak or something more voomvoom, which unforunately may not last the test of time. And in an oversized please (because I seem to carry my life's essentials everywhere!)..

ARGH I don't even know why I bother even choosing a colour when I clearly can't afford one!

I did however find a site called Mulberry bags Australia. It's authenticity is questionable, especially seeing as the Mulberry was priced at $600-something dollars and was discounted to $280-something like that and the original will definately set you back about $1300.

OH WHY MUST I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!??!!

Hopman Cup 2011

To fit in with the Australian Open that's currently occuring in Melbourne, I thought I might write about my first LIVE tennis event that I went to on a balmy Perth night. It was on a Tuesday night in January, a workmate of mine was kind enough and nice enough to give me her ticket because she was unable to go. I headed home after work, freshened up, before heading to Burswood Dome to watch Australia vs. Serbia fight it out to win the Hopman Cup.

I've missed the women's game but it wasn't all that exciting according to Jojo who was there, she said that Australia went down in straight sets! It wasn't all that surprising really, seeing as it was Austrealia's Molik vs. Serbia's Ivanovic - Ivanovic probably had speed against Molik, even if Molik was a stronger server and someone with more emotional control.

Anyway, the men's game, Hewitt vs. Djokovic was better, there were some great moves and in some instances Hewitt looked set to win the point (40 vs. 0) but then he choked under the pressure and just gave his points away. He also needed to lift his serves, shockingly bad. Djokovic on the other hand, wow service speeds of 200km/h + at times, I could barely see the ball fly across the court!

A blur of tennis ball hurtling towards Djokovic

The single games didn't compare to the awesome game that was the doubles, and I must admit Australia played admirably and came so close to taking the doubles game away from Serbia. But alas, in the game point - where they had to reach 10 points with 2 points difference, Australia lost. Djokovic served up a storm to give the Serbia the win, allowing them to reach 10 points first. So devastating, but MAN what a game it was. So exciting the doubles match. It was one of those things you just have to see, especially some of the volleys. Unbelievable. Just describing it wouldn't help.

All in all, my first tennis match was rather exciting, even if it was boiling hot under the dome and its lights. I wouldn't mind heading to the Australian Open (or better yet, Wimbledon) and watch Nadal and Federer play. Now that would be AWESOME!

ps. Please note the photos abover were taken by me with my humble compact camera whom I have abused a bit too much.

Herding Thoughts....

1. My thoughts are currently like a bundle of helium balloons let loose into the sky. Like atoms straying in random directions. All away from my head, away from the intention. Does anyone really know what happens to them balloons anyway? My imagination thinks that it keeps travelling up and in space there are all these multi-coloured balloons drifting aimlessly and astronaunts play with them, that's why they have so much fun up in space. My logical (and one that knows a little too much) tells me that the gases disperse out or expand due to heat/lack of gases in the atmosphere resulting in having to balance the partial pressure of the gases inside the balloon vs. the surrounding resulting in a POP.

2. Focus, dammit. What's wrong with the optics in my brain.

3. Always hoping for the best, always expecting the worst. Am I a fool for always assuming disappointment? But if I did does it not mean that when good things happen it's a nice pleasant surprise?

4. I slipped into another sink hole. Thankfully, not a deep one that I can't crawl out of.

5. I really should be reading my clinical work. Otherwise at least revising Chemistry and Physics. WHY IS IT SO HARD to study?? When did LIFE start to take over? (this is an unusual form of complaining, I've discovered a new LOW!!)

6. Very bad week for losing weight, I've snacked on two packet of Chips over the week, digged into Conniessuer Ice Cream (sometimes drazzled with Margaret River Chocolate factory chocolate sauce), ate buffet at Atrium, a Chinese Banquet and all I done in terms of exercise is 20 minute interval running and yoga.  I still have to attend a dinner with bf's family, another Chinese Banquet. ARGH!!... SOOOOOOOOOO naughty. HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO LOSE WEIGHT IN THESE CONDITIONS?? At least I have two fruits a day. T_T

7. I feel like I am tied to a string. Like a pendulum. Swaying forth and back, back and forth. What is all this? I want to give MD a try and yet I'm so reluctant to study to get into it (and I guess at the back of my head I know the career I'm in, I can try to succeed). The back swing is, I already have this fabulous career I can expand and be awesome at, all it needs is a little bit of committment and passion (which I'm lacking because I'm swinging forth and wanting MD). FML. I need to decide and I really need to stick to wanting one or the other. There is no both. But WHY AM I BEING SUCH A PENDULUM. GOD POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

U2 bonanza!

I went to the U2 concert on 18th December 2010 (it's weird, because I can't believe it's almost half way through Jan!! WHERE DID TIME GO?? I swear we just celebrated New Years!), anyway here's a collection of the craziness.

50 000+ crowd doing the mexican wave was definately a sight to see, as well as the lights going out and all 50 000+ people taking their phones out and lighting up Subiaco Oval! I guess the other awesome thing was Bono bringing a girl on stage (her name was Emily) and serenading her, dancing with her and then giving her a kiss on the hand, not to mention grabbing someone's iphone and taking a photo of himself for them. This is of course, without even the need for explanation the stage presence and performance. It was amazing. The stage was massive, the songs executed to perfection and the way U2 just performed. I guess U2 wouldn't be U2 without all the messages about human rights and all. There were people that brought out candles (I'm assuming they are all from Amnesty International) as sort of a memorial for the prisoners in Burma who were taken without reason. It made me want to join Amnesty again. Their course is good, but whether it's effective is another different thing, after all it takes effort from everyone, but ONE person caring is a good start.

LUCKIEST GIRL EVER wouldn't you agree??

Making their final exits.

Unforunately because I had my grandma's birthday dinner, I missed out on Jay Z, but nonetheless I made it just before they came on. It was brilliant and I'm glad I went.

At the end of the night trying to leave, so many people!!
