With her pixie haircut and sophisticated-schoolmarm style, actress Carey Mulligan has fast become one of my favourites (I loved her An Education!). The Londoner flawlessly channels a mix of classic sophistication with a sweet whimsical feminine look.
Her perfect skin, the pixie hair, the big eyes and the skinny, awkward posture make her look adorably cute and sweet. She’s always smiling and in interviews has such an awkward but innocence about her.
Even though she wears conservative cuts, she manages to make them look young and hip by incorporating statement pieces like big jewelry, hats and some funky shoes. Her very simple, but bold, haircut, demands ultra feminine dresses and that is what she often does, wear the cutest of dresses.
Her ability to mix and layer is also something I aspire to do. She is able to mix colours, patterns, materials and make it look edgey and yet classy (if I try, I look like a hobbo - or someone that tried to wear their whole entire wardrobe at once... totally not cool...)
You'll never find her in anything skimpy, skin-tight, or super short. Nay, instead she prefers knee-length hemlines, poufy silhouettes, anything undeniably classy, and with that I love her for it.

everyday you begin again...
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

Change for the better..
The last two weeks of 40+ degree celsius has finally made me book that all important appointment and give up my long hair and go for the big chop.
I've been going to Stephanie Chew's cute little salon in Northbridge - S2C hair designs located in Monger street.
My brother has been going to her for ages and been trying to get me to go for a while, but I really couldn't be bothered until last year before I went on my holidays, she fixed by otherwise bleh hair.
Anyway, whenever I get a haircut the priority that all hairdressers must abide by before they touch my hair is the following:
1. Cut a style that suits me
2. Plain and simply must be VERY low maintenance
(I don't have time as it is!)
3. Has to be somewhat trendy... and if I'm for it I'll just go for something completely outrageous..
4. Provide my hair with volume.. it just goes flat too quick and easily.. thanks to my dead straight hair.. T_T
I left it to Steph.. and she did a brilliant job (it's nice and cool as well..no heavy hot head of hair!)
It was however, such a shock.
The amount of hair on the floor... it looked like a pile of animal fur or a furry decent sized animal! Or a small puppy sized animal at least.. T_T
And feeling it omg.. I can no longer comb my fingers through my hair!
It's a little choppy to give it volume..
Has a side fringe to shape the fringe..
I think I look a little too Asian.. but meh I am so not surprising there..
I also had my hair coloured... Burgundy..
Thank God it's all one colour.
Getting my hair coloured.. and the assistant finishing off the colouring as Steph cuts another customer's hair..
Then.. the final look...
I feel so cheeky with the haircut.. Like I can get up to anything.. HAH..
Now the fun part... matching my hair to all the clothes I have!
OH and I feel as though I look like one of those Japanese/Taiwanese drama girls..
Especially the girl from Hana Kimi..
LOOKIE..
Of course she is a lot cuter! All I'm saying is that the hair is exactly the same!

At Moore & Moore brunch is the most important part of the day..
Bf and I had a lovely brunch last Saturday at Moore & Moore Cafe in Fremantle. It's situated at the famous Moore & Moore building (DUH!) which is part of the Notre Dame University complex, opposite the Law and Medicine buildings and of course amongst this charming little house painted blue with a red door.
Seeing as it was summer I doned a yellow dress paired with a red belt and headband, ready to take on the heat! It also make me feel happy. Anyway, I've forgotten how quaint and lovely Fremantle. Their heritage listed buildings, the side streets waiting to be explored, the cafe strips, very Marais, except, perhaps not as jammed packed with shops/cafes/interesting finds as Marais. I'm with what I have.
So back to Moore & Moore, it's a cafe with a gallery, which unfortunately, when we went didn't have anything on display. It is also known to also host some lovely vintage styled receptions and engagement parties. The sign casually pokes out from between the buildings, nothing too obvious, but the umbrellas and the sittings outside the entrance definitely makes it obvious that this is one popular brunch venue.
Like all trends in Perth, and like the best of cafes, the interior has a rustic charm, with every nook and cranny filled with leather counches, stools and recycled chairs and tables to make the most of the small area of the cafe leading to the order area. They also have setting indoors in another room. But I love the nooks and cranny, it gives you privacy, allows you to observe the happenings and people and makes you forget that you are even out; it's just you and your boy.
Moore & Moore, also has a courtyard, which is just perfect for this Saturday morning brunch. It was also cooler than being inside as well.
The menu at Moore & Moore has the usual selection of brunch meals - bircher museli, eggs on toast, but they also have steak sandwich and daily specials. All of which looks absolutely fabulous.

I got myself a honeycomb espresso affagato (perfect for a warm morning) and it was just delicious! The sweetness of the honeycomb with the rich coffee taste as you get close to the bottom of the cup, and of course the honeycomb pieces! I was in coffee and sweet heaven.
For my brekkie, I had the french toast with honey mascapone and fresh fruit. AND OMG it was to die for! It wasn't too sweet either and the toast wasn't too thick and floury, and honey covered french toast with the mascapone was perfect. Only thing I wish there was more of was the fruits.
and I also had a side of poached eggs - which was perfectly cooked - runny on the inside and perfectly round! Just needed a pinch of salt and pepper and it was perfect.
After what was an amazing breakfast, and spent a couple of hours talking, (we didn't even mind too much that our meals took a while.. even if we were hungry!) we wondered around the streets of Fremantle, visited multiple secondhand bookshops. Discovered and bought some treasures home. We would have wondered more, if it wasn't for the heat of the sun getting to us, and the fact that I had a thermomix demo later on in the day and he wanted to go and get his camping equipment.
All in all, we promised ourselves that we will explore Fremantle more and definitely come back to Moore & Moore for a taste of more of their menu, if not at least to have coffee and just sit in their courtyard under the shade of white umbrellas.

Heatwave
The heatwave is killing me... I can't go to the gym... (too hot) and stupid bus drivers not putting on the air con for the bus and just the ridiculous 40+ degree Celsius heat for the whole week!
Argh...
I wish I can migrate to a cooler place while it's summer in Perth!

Style Inspiration: Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel never looks less than picture perfect twist on 1960s look. Cute yet sexy, adorable but stunning and all ending with such a sweet smile.
That is what I aspire to be when I wake up, take a shower, do my makeup, and get dressed and always look prim and proper (without being uptight), girly (without overtly looking delicate or too lacey and flowery), and over-all very lady-like.
And hey, she looks just like her long lost twin - Katy Perry (who in her own right is stylish, in a more outlanderish way).

Outskirts 2011
As part of Perth Fashion Week, I always strive to go to the Northbridge, On William street fashion events, in particular the Outskirts. And every year they don't seem to disappoint.
In 2011, thanks to the generous City of Perth's contribution to up and coming fashion designers and promotion of the arts in the city the Outskirts was bigger and better than ever! The pins they gave out this year was a lot better than the magnets - in fact they are definitely awesome decoration for my fedora.

The raunchy and playful side of Outskirts...

I realise this entry is about 4 months late, but it's better late than never. Especially with all the markets and vintage sales and the photography displays, art installations and pop-up stores, Outskirts deserves its entry.
Here's to a better and bigger 2012 Outskirts and Perth Fashion Festival!
