S & T Thai gourmet cafe Northbridge

Situated on William street in between Newcastle and Brisbane street and next door to Viet Hoa, sits this tiny, blink and you will miss, Thai restaurant.

It does nothing to bring attention to itself and doesn't need to, because it's all by word of mouth, which really is the best form of advertising.

It's deco is plain and simple with paneled photos of food against white painted walls. The restaurant doesn't have that many sets available, maybe around 30, but it does fill up quick, so on Friday and weekends it's best to book.

The prices were very reasonable and looking around the restaurant before we ordered, the portions were generous.

We ordered three dishes between the two of us with a small bowl to share, along with Thai iced coffee. The small bowl was a massive bowl and the food and drinks came out so quickly! Efficiency yay!

The Thai iced coffee was similar with that of Hawkers, but with double the sweetness. I wasn't a huge fan, mainly because I can't stand too sweet-a-thing, but CL seemed to have loved hers.

The choice of meals we ended up ordering was the Soft boned pork Tom Saab, which reminded us of our parents cooking, albeit with a twist. The dish had a hint of sourness and if you taste the soup it was salty sour goodness (whereas mum dish it is plain and refreshing). The pork wasn't fatty and it was cooked to tender precision that it fell of the cartilage, which really could have been eaten too, but I've never been a huge fan of eating bones. CL devoured hers, cartilage and all. Overall, it was a good choice as all our other orders were spicy.

Our second main was the Spicy Thai Beef salad. The beef was lean and was a little hard, because of either the cut of beef they used or more than likely slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, the beef was aplenty on the dish and in big cuts, just the way I like it! The flavours were amazing! The hotness of the chilli carefully balanced with the sourness of lemon and lime! Absolutely refreshing salad. Although putting a couple more slices of tomatoes would be nice.

The last and final dish was the prawn Pad Thai. Boy was this dish a punch of spice. It had all my favorite Asian touches, with dried shrimp, balachon mix and a hint of sambal with chilli flakes and paste. Then there was of course the hint of lemon flavour. The only disappointing factor was that the dish had only 5 prawns, granted they were king sized prawns, but I wish they gave us more!

The other thing about this place is it's innovative. They have a button on the table that says the most asked for things; service, water and bill. So unlike other small sized causal dining places it strives to provide service with it's small parade of waitstaff. I didn't personally tried it out because there always seems to be someone around to lend a hand.

Overall a Thai delight! Cheap but flavorsome authentic dishes, with a fast efficient friendly service with a smile to boot! Just the way I like it!

Catamaran at South Perth Foreshore

Beautiful summer day - not too hot, in fact a rather cool 26 degrees with a beautiful south westly breeze blowing, bf and I finally made it to the South Perth river front to go catamaraning.

The Surf Cats allows you to hire catamarans at $35 an hour and with the entertainment card we got two hours for the price of one! We got into our catamaran, named number #1 and sailed across the Swan River towards the city of Perth. Catching the wind in out sails we practiced going around markers and I have to say I was very surprised that I remembered a lot of my sailing lessons from my brief sailing lessons back in October/November/December 2010.

We had so much fun and will definitely be going back to do more or perhaps get our own sail boat.

Unfortunately though all the photos are on land after we finished our two hours, just the thought of cameras and phones getting wet or worse dropping them in the river is not cool.

Karringyup Swapmeet

I've been dedicated for the last two Sundays and waking up before the sun to sell my fashion treasures I don't wear at the Karringyup Swapmeet.

It's been a lot of fun and I'm getting addicted to it too quickly. It's quick pocket money. I just really wish people won't bargain so much especially as my stuff and my friends are actually pretty brand new and not junk unlike so other stalls that are set up. $15.00 for a well looked after and pretty brand new guess bag is already really good but asking for $10.. You are stealing!

Sigh. alas we have come back with cash and unlike last week, today people didn't bargain as much and we stood our ground a lot more.

Anyway, for those that wants to know it runs every Sunday. Get there by 5am and line up for a ticket for entrance. Ticket are numbered and that's how you would go in. Number 1 then 2.. Etc. Public can't enter until 630am. It runs until 11am.

I will be going back just before winter I think.

It's too much fun and makes my weekends seem longer.

Here a photo of our stall... And my friends MC and BB

Draw of memories

I have a drawer filled with memories, diaries filled with teenage angst, letters that were passed in class between girlfriends, birthday wishes and kisses and wishful whimsical tales.

Oh how rose coloured they were! How I wish cynicism didn't creep up on me.

Place Des Anges

A flock of "angels" rose above St. Georges Tce on Saturday night as part of Perth's Art Festival opening night. They did  daring acrobatics providing an aerial arts display as they climb ropes and swing 100m up in the air.

The group of aerial artists are from  France’s "Les Studios de Cirque" and did an amazing job performing for hundreds of people that filled the terrace.

What was more amazing apart from their actual act and ability to dangle in the air and do back flips and what not is their amazing costumes and of course the magical release of thousands of feathers.
There was one where two of them had a pillow fight - very entertaining to see! and angels releasing tails of feathers behind them.

It was truely a magical sight to see feathers float and drift down from the skies.
I regret not bring my DSLR but I was out with the girls that night and I really was not going to be lugging my nikon around. So alas the photos from my humble iphone will do.

That white stuff my friends is NOT noise from the photo nor is it dust on my phone lens but thousands of feathers falling from the sky!

After seeing a fantastic and almost magical show to complete the night we had a bottle of red to share between us, three girls and giggles of laughter. Alas a perfect Saturday girls night out.

Separated at Birth: Twiggy (in her young age) and Carey Mulligan

So I had to make another Separated at Birth post purely and simply because you have to agree with me here when I say...

The 1960s style icon Twiggy looks a lot like Carey Mulligan! (of course when I say Twiggy I mean her younger self). Maybe they are related in some way?? It's too uncanny...

Don't you think they look eerily similar?

I love them both!
