I've been dying to try this place out for years, but have never really had any reason to, that is until a friend of mine lost a bet (YAY! =D).
So, Lamont has won countless number of awards for being one of Perth's finest restaurant. It's situated in the East Perth cove area so it's undecidedly romantic place to dine with views the East Perth cove area. The place, also boosts fine wines from both local and international wineries.
The interior design of the indoor seating is interesting with bursts of blue, reds and yellow - it's so contemporary. I love the clash of colours around the room, but the overall dining area was odd - there was no real structure (mainly due to the structure of the building), in fact, some of the dining areas were cramped and in corners that seemed to be overlooked by the waitstaff. The outdoors area on the otherhand, is more roomy, but the chairs and tables used seems to be a too bar-like, although I do liked the red stools - they were funky. But for a fine dine establishment who has great views of the Claisebrook Cove, it was a little disappointing to see that they didn't make the outdoors area a main dining attraction.
The service, wasn't fantastic, but nothing would compare to the service received at the Gala Restaurant - that's in a league of its own.
The food however was fresh (if seafood was ordered), the meat was cooked to perfection (perfectly tender and juicy) and the dessert was a little too sweet for my liking but my friend greatly enjoyed it (although, I did enjoy the macaroons). Be aware the the following photos are for the February Menu at Lamont, so if you go at a later date, the foods may have changed, check their
website for details.
Handpicked crab, baby spinach and vine ripened tomato salad, crunchy shallots
- the crab was so fresh! and the dressing was pure perfection!
Fruits de mare: garlic prawns, crumbed mussels, oyster and seared scallops-
My friend had this dish and I only had the mussels and the oyster because of so called allergy and they the fried yellow things you see and that was nice. I also had a try of the scallops and it was juicy and well the way scallops should be!
Butter poached marron with grilled tails, sauce vierge and petit gnocchi -
OMG the marron *drools* and the gnocchi was so creamy and cheesy(?) BUT it still doesn't bet Cantina 663 - that place still has the BEST gnocchi I have ever ever tasted!!
Lamb loin with butternut pumpkin, lamb neck croquette and (broccoli) asparagus florets -
The dish originally had broccoli but the kitchen has ran out so they replaced it with asparagus which I think is a lot more delicious anyway. I love asparagus. I had a try of the meat and I must say it was juicy, tender and thank god, it lacked the lamb smell.
Green beans, (broccoli) asparagus and confit garlic
No brocolli instead asparagus and I LOVE IT. I know it's just a vegie side, but it was crisp, fresh and crunchy.
White chocolate cheesecake with ginger syrup and pears -
we also had a couple of strawberries and the chocolate cheesecake although it was nice it was way too sweet for my tastebuds. My pancreas was crying from the sugar overload, so I had the bare minimum. The carmellised pears weren't my favourites either.
Macaroon selection -
They just bite size and so cute. Bite size was really all you need. There is coffee (carmel looking coloured one on the bottom left, there's caramel (we couldn't decide whether that was the white one or the one next to the chocolate), chocolate, and possibly peanut (couldn't decide which one it was!)
Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience, we had a quiet corner overlooking the river. The food was delicious, the service was fine and all I know is that I will be back again, and this time I'm bringing the whole gang with me.
