Saturday Delights

I say nothing is more delightful than spending a lovely sunny Autumn day being immersed in culture. So on Easter Saturday, I grabbed my younger cousin and drove down to Fremantle to see at least one French film, as the French Film Festival was still on, and an added bonus was that the Fremantle Arts Festival was on.

It took us half an hour to find parking, went around in circles far too often, due to the lack of signs around Fremantle and their many narrow one ways streets, street closures due to the festival and what nots, I've almost given up. But out of the blue, this 4WD leaves and right opposite the Luna SX as well.

Our luck was turned. We ate a lovely meal at X-Wray (see next possible post) then off we went to the Fremantle Markets and to explore its streets.

Had my dose of caffeine at X-Wary - had a slight burnt taste, but wasn't too tragic and AL catching up on scheduling her diary.

We wandered around Fremantle markets and the watched a few street performers do their thing and of course wandered into a few second hand book stores and boutiques scattered around the center. There was so many people, it was a little cramped on the narrow footpaths of Freo, but, that's half the fun.

While wandering around the Fremantle Markets, we managed to grab some dessert at the Macaroon stand. The display at the street front was lovely and oh so french sheek but alas the reflection in the photo did not portray that.

There were plenty of Macaroon flavours to chose from so we decided to be good and only get one each. AL ended up getting honey and thyme which was excruciatingly sweet, couldn't taste the thyme and the "honey" tasted more like caramel than honey. I settled for something more zesty, in the form of Lemon, because I always think it works better for Macaroons, gives it that nice balance of sweet and citrus, and it definitely turned out to be nicer than honey and thyme.

After dessert, it got a little too hot, so we went back to Luna, which was actually timed perfectly, as people were entering the cinema and grabbing a seat. So with a glass of San Pellegrino Chinotto to quinch our thirst we headed in to watch Paris-Manhattan staring Alica Taglioni and Patrick Bruel.

It was a lovely film. Made me smile and laugh throughout it. It is why I love watching French movies. They always tend to make "romantic-comedies" with sophistication, humour and of course, an air of utter romance and yet although dreamy, its still somewhat realistic. If you get a chance definitely go and watch Paris-Manhattan, its fun, funny, romantic and I couldn't help but feel happy after seeing it, it was nostalgic and makes me want to desperately go back to Paris and explore, even if I think Parisians are rather rude.

The day was definitely worth the drive and the stress of parking an the traffic on the way home. All that couldn't wipe away the delightful day and from the feeling that you get from watching a romantic French film.

My Fair Lady

I spent yesterday afternoon enjoying My Fair Lady - one of film's greats.

I forgot how classic, catchy and funny the music in the movie is. I also realised how so much of it is re-used and alluded to in so many cartoons, movies and books in our time.

And as always, Audrey Hepburn is stunning and such a fantastic actress.

By favourite scene however is the monochromatic Ascot Opening Race scene

and now I'm really eager to go to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup.I've even come up with what I'm wearing - I'm wearing my lace short dress with exposed zipper at the back - it's flattering and elegant. Now all I need is the big hat.

An Education is perfectly fine.

I finally got a chance to see An Education. It's one of those films with witty dialogue, interesting characters, dreamy scenaries, and a plot line about coming of age, learning about life and that only you know what's good for you. I'm sure wikipedia would reveal all for those interesting in what the movie is about..

The one thing I love most about the whole movie, it isn't so much the fact that the plot line is great (which it isn't really), it's more the costumes (and the dialogue - I've always like movies with intersting, witty, thought-provoking dialogue).

The lovely Carey Mulligan (who is absolutely sweet, cute and adorable), who plays the protangonist, Jenny in the movie, dawns such lovely fabulous 60s flocks. The perfectly coiffed up-dos, the glamourous make-up and fancy jewellery and all those simple yet figure-pleasing dresses, (that doesn't need boobs or bums to be showing! - in other words - class).

It makes me even more determined to get rid of all the jeans (except perhaps my Levis and my Calvin Kleins) in my wardrobe.

Go and watch it if you haven't yet. Even if it is just for the costumes and Carey Mulligan.

Toy Story 3

I've grown up with this movie - well, not as much as my brother has though.. he is about Andy's age and in this movie Andy's off to college and hey my brother started uni this year..

Anyway, disney and pixar has done another fantastic job, and this time, toy story really does tug at the heart strings.. I got all teary. In fact it made grown men bawl their eyes out.

Say goodbye to Woody, Buzz, Jesse, Slinky, Mr and Mrs. Potatoe Head, Pizza Planet aliens, Rex, Hamm and Buttercup one last time.

If you haven't seen it yet, go see it. It's a fitting ending to one of my favourite disney/pixar movies of all time.

Sex and the City 2

I went to see Sex and the City 2 with S on Wednesday night, premier night. I must say there were lots of ladies looking very stella. BUT believe it or not, there was also a whole entire row of boys sitting in front of us.

The movie, well, I won't ruin it for those who haven't seen it, but lets just say that it has a different look at all the characters. OH how far they've come.

The fashion? Some of the outifts were a little more than mere cloths wrapped around them, it looked as though Patricia Fields started to run out of ideas with some of the outfits, but nonetheless I loved what the girls wore on their camel ride trips - maybe except for Charlotte - the red, tight, PVC looking pants is just not a good look for anyone. Superwoman much?

Plot? It kind of dragged out something for nothing...

Overall? Wasn't brilliant but wasn't tragically bad I suppose. Good chick flick. I just loved how the audience reacted to some of the scenes the whole cinema going into girly giggles and "OOOOOHHHH HOT" or someone screaming out "YES!!" very excitedly mind you. That is exactly how movies like these should be watched!

a collection of things..

So I've been doing a lot of side projects - none of which unfortunately involved me actually exercising, unless you classify dancing around in your pjs in your room a form of exercise... at least it's physical activity i guess. I have however, contemplated on more than one occasion and in fact attemepted to change into gym wear, but alas I was distracted by shiny things... and you know me and shiny things...

The first and most importantly side project is my ebay store filled with all sorts of goodies, mainly completely unworn (or worn only a few times) pieces from my wardrobe as well as my cousin's. Do check it out, at the moment, it's not very exciting at all, only because I have yet to post the really exciting pieces. Laziness. But there is this minkpink dress I a bought from Melbourne that I've only worn TWICE - it's virtually new!

My second side project seems to me running around doing interviews. At least it's a start, now I just need to wait around for that phone call or email - I don't like emails, usually means I didn't get the job, so I want the phone call.

Thirdly, I've been thinking about taking on a barrista course seeing how much I love coffee and all. And maybe, that way I have an excuse to buy a coffee machine with real coffee beans instead of the instant coffee that my parents drink at home - maybe that way I'll save $5 on coffee everyday!! WOW that's a lot of savings actually.. hmm.. come to think of it, I really need to detox and get rid of my caffeine addiction, it's not healthy.

I've also thought about opening up a business - or before I venture into that, I've thought about taking on a marketing diploma or something like that. We see how that pans out.

OH I'm also trying to convince bf to come shopping with me, not for me, but rather for him, and what perfect timing, the mid-year/stocktake sales are on! I think he would look fantastic in a double breasted coat from politix/calibre.

I also bought a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes - they are absolutely gorgeous, sexy pair of shoes. ALAS, cost me an arm and leg, and with money I don't really have. I really should return them, but they are so absolutely sexy and it was LOVE. IT loves me because it's so damn comfortable and just sculpted to my feet, and I LOVE it, for the colour, the red soles and just the sexiness of it all. I might put photos up later.

I've also been posting my past photos up on Lookbook. So why not hype my looks yeh - just log in with your facebook account, all because you love me! I decided I'm going to take  learn to take fashion shots and my cousins are all going to be my models, although I haven't quite told them that... but it'd still be fun, who doesn't like pretending to be models? HAH.

I have to run, meeting up with cousins and bf for dinner tonight - but alas not all the cousins can come so it's just going to be Tez and boy. Hopefully she'll be nice >"<

falling down the rabbit hole..

I just saw the best re-make of Alice in the Wonderland to date.

Tim Burton is a master of his field - hands down - no competition.

The costumes were surperb. The characters were rejuvernated and so alive!! The actors - FANTASTIC! (*SWOON johnny depp* - he's just one of a kind)

The 3D animations were spectacular and I was captivated by Underland!

I won't spoil it. I recommend you go see ALICE IN WONDERLAND!!

Anyway, it's past my bedtime - I'm completely knackered, exhausted, tired - been a long long long week that never seems to end (still have tomorrow - thank GOD it's Friday!) and the movie finished late - but I had to post about it, it's just fantastic. I wouldn't mind seeing it again!

Shelock Holmes

Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes is an iconic character known for its detective poweress, arrogance, middle-aged Brit with a drug and alcohol addiction and is of course thought to stink (due to the lack of showers!), but, hey, he has his loyal fans. So when it was annouced that Guy Ritchie will be directing a re-invention of a possible franchise there were mixed reactions - but, with a cast like Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as the lovable Dr. Watson, and Doyle's characters being so iconic, it can't do badly right? and it doesn't.

The film showed the camraderie between Holmes and Watson, through the whole "save the world from destruction by using logic!", and hey it was brilliant (the chemistry between the two characters I mean - and the way it should be!) - they really had good chemistry, playing at each other.

The character work overall is great - Holmes comes off as a high functioning autistic genius, whose lonely and border-lining that genius-psychotic persona. Watson, on the other had is practical, a necessary part of the successful duo, one who is not afraid to criticise Holmes. Thus, the pair can't function without one another - a typical buddy action-comedy. Then there is Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) as the International Criminal Mastermind (with a LONG WANTED-for list), who is the love interest of Holmes, and has an agenda of her own. The supervillian, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), who wants to rule the world, through his magic and witchcraft.

The plot itself is very typically action-packed, religious cults, funny one-liners, humour, good dialogue, sound effects were amazing (you know what I mean when you see it - like when there is action everything slows down and there is absolute silence!) thrown in with amazing visuals of industrious London of 1891.

The movie, when you really think about it, the story is typical and the true assence of the characters were missed, but then you are making a blockbluster film so the action sequences with big explosions are great and I love it for that and for it's one-liners and visual-effects, but I still think that it’s a Sherlock Holmes movie without much of a central mystery and a superficial villain. At times the plot requires characters t(hat are supposed to be the smartest guys in the room) to act and think like complete dimwits. It’s sacrificed a potentially compelling and clever story for long action set-pieces and chases throughout London, so for that I am disappointed it.

Otherwise I love the movie. I love Robert Downey Jr. and I'm surprised by Jude Law's ability to pull off Watson brilliantly. I enjoyed it, a summer blockbuster and one which you should see!

everyone is a critic

I've spent post-Christmas watching the endless "blockbuster" summer flicks and I wasn't disappointed. I saw Shelock Holmes on boxing day, after having a quick shopping spree at the boxing day sales (I bought stuff for the boys) and then two days later saw the other muchly anticipated film, Avatar (in 3D - of course!) and both were the best two movies of 2009 (hands down)!! And I spent the FIRST day of 2010 watching a disney film (YES I LOVE DISNEY MOVIES!) - The Princess and the Frog - which brings me back to my childhood and omg all those morals embedded through it and of course the typical musical styling of disney!

Alas, I have to give my two cents - live with it! =D
